Leading roof tile manufacturer Russell Roof Tiles has secured an eight-figure funding package
from HSBC UK to support the next phase of its ambitious growth and innovation strategy.
Headquartered in Burton-on-Trent, where it has two manufacturing sites, Russell Roof Tiles is a
major UK producer of concrete roof tiles and accessories, supplying leading housebuilders,
developers, and social housing providers nationwide. The new refinancing deal provides increased
financial flexibility to scale up production, enhance efficiency, and drive forward ongoing
investment in new technologies and product innovation.
A key focus of this investment is the accelerated rollout of Bute3®, Russell Roof Tiles’ pioneering
new product that redefines traditional roofing. The innovative design combines three plain tiles into
a single, high-efficiency format — significantly improving installation speed while maintaining the
timeless appearance of a classic roof.
Now in full production at Russell Roof Tiles’ new £18.5 million fully automated line in Burton-on-
Trent, Bute3® exemplifies the company’s commitment to advancing British manufacturing through
design excellence and operational innovation.
Andrew Hayward, Managing Director at Russell Roof Tiles, said: “This new funding gives us the
momentum to fast-track the rollout of Bute3®, our most advanced product to date. By merging
traditional aesthetics with modern efficiency, we’re setting a new benchmark for the roofing
industry. The support from HSBC UK enables us to expand capacity, deliver even greater value to
our customers, and continue investing in the future of sustainable, high-quality British
manufacturing.”
The company now produces over 60 million tiles annually and forecasts a 30 per cent increase in
turnover over the next 12 months, driven by continued investment, efficiency improvements, and
strong demand from the UK housing and construction sectors.
Dave Ramsden, Head of East Midlands Corporate, at HSBC UK, added: “This funding will help
accelerate the rollout of innovative products and strengthen the company’s position in a
competitive market. Working with Russell Roof Tiles underscores HSBC UK’s commitment to
offering bespoke funding solutions that help businesses grow and innovate. We’re looking forward
to seeing the business continue to thrive.”
Russell Roof Tiles manufactures a range of concrete roof tiles and UPVc fittings and accessories
for roofs across the UK. Customers include all of the major national house builders, local
authorities, housing associations, clinical commissioning groups, and care home providers.
The firm has been manufacturing concrete roof tiles for over 60 years, since pioneer John Gibson
founded Annandale Tile Company in Lochmaben near Lockerbie in 1965. Russell Roof Tiles has
continued to develop and innovate since then and is now one of the leading suppliers of roof tiles.
Today, the firm employs almost 200 staff across three sites, two in Burton on Trent and
Lochmaben.
