Burton on Trent based pitched roof tile manufacturer, Russell Roof Tiles, (RRT) is continuing to support young talent, by celebrating National Apprenticeship Week (6th – 12th of February).
National Apprenticeship Week aims to highlight the exceptional work being done by employers and apprentices across the country, providing an excellent opportunity to celebrate apprenticeships and bring the whole apprenticeship community together.
This year’s national theme is Skills for Life. Apprenticeships benefit individuals, businesses, and the economy, which is recognised by Russell Roof Tiles, and seen as a key investment for the future of their business.
Three RRT apprentices Liam Harrison, Shaun Large and Zane Poulton, are studying at South Derbyshire College on the Maintenance Engineering Level 2 course. A year on, they are nearing the end of their qualification, and have been taken on permanently by the company and are being encouraged to look forward to their Level 3 qualification.
Russell Roof Tiles has always been passionate about encouraging younger individuals to pursue a career in the engineering, manufacturing, and roofing industry. Supporting and investing in apprentices through training, to help them develop their career is at the core of their company values.
Otto Mathiesen, Maintenance comments, “I’m delighted to have recruited three young talented individuals who are all progressing really well, we’ve seen them learn, develop and grow which makes us incredibly proud.”
Having started his own career as an apprentice, Otto would encourage others to follow in his steps and think about beginning their career in engineering with an apprenticeship.
He added “I am pleased to say that our apprentices have developed really well, they are hard-working, ambitious and dedicated. It is has been a pleasure to lend my experience and expertise to them, and offer them guidance throughout their course. I’m thrilled to see that they’re ready to take the next step in their career, and stay with us so that we can support the trio to become future engineers at the company.”
Andrew Hayward, Managing Director at Russell Roof Tiles said: “We are committed to supported talented, ambitious apprentices and help them to thrive in their careers. It’s important for young people to think about apprenticeships as a way to get hands-on experience in the industry.”
Douglas Campbell at the firms’ sister site in Lockerbie also started with Russell Roof Tiles on a graduate scheme, and is now their Maintenance Manager, and has been with the company for over 15 years. Russell Roof Tiles understand the importance of investing in their apprentices, with the hope that after qualifying, they will stay with them, as Dougie did, and continue to work within the company, passing on their knowledge to the younger recruits.
Russell Roof Tiles understand the variation in routes that people may take on their journey when entering the roofing industry, and investing in their future workforce, by taking on new team members, and encouraging them to develop on the job is vital for the progression of individuals and their workforce. They also believe that investment in their current team will help to further their careers and professional development.
